Tanjong Jara Resort is situated on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia and lies mid-way between Kuala Terengganu in the North and Kuantan to the South. The resort is built on a sprawling 17-hectare beachfront site facing the South China Sea.
Originally built in 1979, the resort was awarded one of the world’s foremost prizes for architecture, the prestigious Aga Khan Award. And although it has recently been extensively renovated to the standards of a modern deluxe international resort, its original beauty has been preserved, and even enhanced. The look and feel reflects a combination of styles from within the Malay Archipelago, the philosophy being to assure guests an experience that is Unmistakably Malay.
Accommodation
All cottages and suites are uniquely designed using local rich timbers and furnished to a high standard using luxurious fabrics and materials.The cottages and suites are positioned along a beautiful coastline, facing the sea, the tropical landscaped gardens and beach.Three choices of accommodation are offered:
"Anjung" (Single Storey Beach Cottage) Each cottage is approximately 88 square metres in size.They each offer a 6'6" bed plus an additional single sofa bed. This is complemented by a beautiful large sunken outdoor bath set in its own private garden. There is a large indoor shower, two vanity units and toilet facilities in the adjoining en suite. A covered terrace leading on to the gardens and beach provides a superb setting for the while away the moments during sunset.
"Serambi" (Ground Floor Suite)
These are contained within double-storey units. Each suite occupies approximately 55 sq. metres with a partially shaded terrace leading on to the gardens. A queen size bed with en suite bathroom and shower facility complements the amenities.
"Bumbung" (First Floor Suite)
This standard of accommodation is similar to the ground floor suites. However, whilst they do not provide a private terrace, this is more than made up for by the excellent views.
All rooms have colour televisions with satellite channels, IDD telephone, refrigerator, a large writing desk, hairdryer and tea & coffee making facilities.

This brand new complex houses the gymnasium and therapy centre. State-of-the-art equipment is available in the gymnasium to suit a variety of needs, whilst the therapy complex offers various therapeutic programmes for beauty culture, relaxation, anti-fatigue and stress relief. The complex also provides Swedish, Thai and local massages including reflexology and aromatherapy.
Golf & Tennis
Guests can also enjoy playing on one of the three golf courses situated within 25 kilometres of the Resort.. The 18 hole Desa Golf Club Dungun is only a 20-minute drive away and a limited range of golf equipment is available at the sports centre for rental. Scenically perched above a river overlooking the South China Sea, this all-day dining restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner. In the evenings, a relaxed ambience accompanies the tastes of classical authentic Malaysian cuisine where guests may enjoy innovative and exotic flavours of the East.
The Nelayan
At present open only for lunch, the restaurant is nestled along the shoreline and offers the finest selection of seafood using the freshest ingredients. The Nelayan offers a delightful gourmet experience set in a relaxing and informal atmosphere. Nelayan in Malay means ‘fisherman’.
The Teratai Terrace
A perfect spot to bask under the sun, this outdoor terrace houses the Pool Deck/Snack Bar and serves light meals and refreshments.

Location

The riverine town of Dungun lies west of Tanjong Jara and is eight kilometres away. The resort is accessible by road from all major cities within Peninsular Malaysia. It is approximately a mile away from the expressway and a one hour drive from Kuala Terengganu Airport.
The Resort provides transfers via limousine services from the Kuala Terengganu Airport, Kerteh Airport, Kuantan Airport (in the state of Pahang), or Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at Sepang. Malaysia Airlines flies daily to Kuala Terengganu Airport from KLIA in Sepang as well as from the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang. A flight schedule can be obtained from the Concierge.
